2.97.010 Created.

There is created an office of public safety, hereinafter in this chapter referred to as the “office.” (Ord. 98-0052 § 2, 1998: Ord. 97-0064 § 1 (part), 1997.)

2.97.020 Members.

The office shall consist of one chief, office of public safety to be appointed by the director of personnel. The chief, office of public safety shall appoint all other employees of the office. Staffing shall include all safety and park police and security personnel and related support staff assigned to the departments of health services, internal services and parks and recreation on the effective date of this section. 2.97.030 Duties.

The office shall:
A. Provide security services to all county departments and facilities as may be ordered by the board of supervisors or requested by the heads of county departments.
B. Make recommendations to the board of supervisors regarding the security of county departments and facilities and participate in emergency and disaster planning activities in cooperation with the chief administrative officer and the sheriff.
C. Make recommendation to the heads of county departments as requested regarding security of facilities, personnel, equipment and the general public using such facilities.
D. Consult as necessary with the sheriff and local police authorities to ensure a close working relationship to enhance the security of county facilities. (Ord. 97-0064 § 1 (part), 1997.)

2.97.040 State standards for recruitment and training of office of public safety, safety police officers and dispatchers.

The county declares that it desires that peace officers and dispatchers employed by the office of public safety participate in the commission on peace officer standards and training reimbursable program to receive state financial aid under the provisions of Chapter 1 of Title 4 (commencing with Section 13500) of the Penal Code.
The office of public safety will adhere to the standards for selection and training established by the commission.
The commission and its representatives may make such inquiries as deemed appropriate by the commission to ascertain that the office of public safety peace officer personnel and dispatchers adhere to standards for selection and training established by the commission on peace officer standards and training.
